Silver Legacy Resort Casino Review Reno, Nevada
Doin’ it right in downtown Reno! The Silver Legacy is a beautiful resort in the heart of downtown Reno. This casino has a dignified, mining town feel to it with all of the modern amenities that you would want out of a casino resort. It is connected to other properties in the downtown area but we’re going to focus on this gem in Reno’s downtown crown. And we’re off!
The Room – 6/10
I walked into this room and just thought “Eh.” There isn’t too much to say about the room here at the Silver Legacy. The room was clean and everything that you needed was there. It was pretty bland without any real decor or theme. I did enjoy the red and black color scheme. The beds were comfortable and offered a nice place to lay your head. Also a plus, there was no tray of garbage that charges you a fortune if you move anything. There was plenty of room for my things and it didn’t feel crowded. It was still a little dated but I didn’t mind the room. A pretty standard, simple room. Not too shabby Silver Legacy.
The Restaurants – 7/10
Let me tell you, this place has plenty of spots to dig in! The Silver Legacy has a great variety of cuisines and price ranges. It shouldn’t be too hard to find the right place to fill your appetite. I have to warn you though, I ate at the buffet and it definitely was not an enjoyable experience. I mean, there was a lot of food, just not a big selection or tasty. It was bland, dried out food that would fill you up if you’re willing to do that to yourself. The Mexican section was a small assortment of salty mushes. They did have prime rib and it was decent. A little dry and under seasoned but my expectations were pretty low at this point. I never trust shrimp that is that light in color either. The dessert spread at least got that flavor out of my mouth. But the Silver Legacy definitely has redeeming food options. The Oyster Bar made a mean jambalaya that hit the spot. Mmm! A bowl full of hot andouille sausage, shrimp, scallops, oysters, and chicken with rice and a nice punch. Definitely check out this place and you won’t be let down. The prices were a little high but it was definitely worth the extra buck or two. There is the 24-hour Cafe Central for any cravings you may have at any time of the day. With plenty of daily specials, Cafe Central has a great selection of tasty bites at reasonable prices. There were just too many places to try out but you will definitely find something for everyone. It can be a little hit or miss so explore your options and hope for the best.
When you’re not chowing down, indulge in some delicious beverages at one of their many refueling stations. They have plenty of bars, each with their own feel and vibe. There are plenty of watering holes to grab a cold one and watch the game or have an intimate evening with your main squeeze. They even have a bar with blended slushy drinks for when you’re trying to beat the heat and be a big kid.
Stay thirsty my friends. Cheers!
The Casino – 9/10
The Silver Legacy has most of the games you’d want to play. With a vast casino floor full of slot machines and table games, you’re sure to find whatever floats your boat. They have all of the standards such as craps, baccarat, roulette, 3-card, 4-card, Pai-Gow, and blackjack with pretty low table minimums (it wasn’t too hard to find a $5 table). It usually isn’t hard to find a seat and try your luck. The payouts are good with progressives and other side bet action going on. They have a lot of machines. There were so many video poker and keno machines with pretty good payouts (9-6 video poker and 422 for a 6 out of 7 in video keno) and some of the machines are even labeled with their respective paybacks. I always have been drawn to the themed machines, such as Lord of the Rings or Twilight Zone, which they have plenty of them. The sportsbook looked a little dated with some handwritten white board action going on but I guess it still gets the job done. There were plenty of screens and a bar nearby so you won’t miss a play. The keno is upstairs near the walkway to the other casinos so you may have to ask someone if you have trouble finding it. The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of the poker room. I always look for a poker room when I visit a casino and they sadly let me down. If you’re looking for some poker action, you won’t find it here. All in all, it’s a fun filled casino with a great selection of games and limits but they are lacking a poker room. Definitely check it out and good luck!
The Amenities – 7/10
There are definitely things to do at the Silver Legacy other than gamble. I went to check out the pool during the day and it looked like a little blue hole in the roof of the 4th floor. It was only three and half feet deep. There weren’t too many people in it but it didn’t really seem like a fun place for the kids or anything. The hot tub out there was pretty tiny too and I just didn’t want to spend too much time up there. The spa offers pretty standard treatments that are a little pricey. I didn’t have the pleasure of experiencing any of it but if you hit it big you can pamper yourself with treatments and relax. The fitness center had plenty of machines with a few dumbbells for you to stay in shape. It wasn’t the biggest space but it’ll do. They also had a salon for you to get done up before hittin’ the town.
When the sun goes down, be sure to check out the night spots at the Silver Legacy. Now before I start talkin’ about the spots you can hit up, I have to mention that the Silver Legacy gets some world class performers coming through their resort. You may get a chance to see your favorite comedian or musician play in their excellent venue. Check out the website to see who will be performing before you make your way out there. The Silver Legacy also has the Aura Ultra Lounge for anyone that needs to hit the dance floor. There are also a couple comedy clubs, the Laugh Factory and Catch a Rising Star, if you just want to grab a drink and yuck it up. I threw in the picture of the florist because it’s always nice to do something thoughtful for the ladies. I’ve never seen a florist in a casino and I thought it was a pretty good idea. So fellas if you’re preparing to show your lady a night on the town, start off with a small gesture to let her know you mean business. Check out the hot spots all over the Silver Legacy for a fun filled visit even when you’re not on the casino floor.
The Ambience – 8/10
The feel in the Silver Legacy is that of a luxurious, classy, Western hotel. The theme is based around a silver baron that revolutionized silver mining in Reno. The Silver Legacy has done a great job maintaining this decor and definitely celebrating Reno’s history. The hotel lobby and upper walkway does a great job of capturing the spirit of classic Western decor while the casino floor is a little more festive with the neon lighting and sounds of the machines. The rooms don’t play on the theme too much but the rest of the property encompasses the theme pretty well. Hats off to you Silver Legacy!
The Value – 7/10
I would say that the Silver Legacy has some value to offer. I have never received a free room from the Silver Legacy and let me tell you, I’ve put in my fair share of time on their machines. Their comp system is pretty good and getting free meals isn’t too difficult as long as you’re getting your play tracked. Oh yeah, they also have those free drinks as long as you are playing on the casino floor. Try not to lose too much when you’re waiting for that next cocktail. The rooms are pretty cheap and won’t cost you too much out of pocket. There is a $12 resort and city fee for each night spent at the Silver Legacy added onto the price of the room. It always depends on when you are trying to stay. You also get to take in the surrounding properties since there are quite a few in walking distance of the Silver Legacy. They do give you a sheet of coupons when you stay here. There are a couple good deals that should help your dollar stretch a little further. You’ll get a bang for your buck as long as you keep your eyes open for the deals.
The Family-Friendliness – 2/10
This place isn’t the best place for that family vacation or getaway. There isn’t too much for the little ones to do. There are a lot of places to eat but that’s about it. The pool isn’t very impressive and pretty small. You could take them out somewhere else but as for the Silver Legacy there just isn’t much for them to do. The Silver Legacy only allows certified service animals with documentation. If you were planning on bringing your furry friends, you better think again. Their pet policy isn’t too welcoming to our four-legged friends. I would say that it is a good idea to check out some other spots to take the whole family.
The Service – 10/10
The service at the Silver Legacy was nothing less of superb. Everyone was polite and personable. All of the servers and cashiers were very polite and helpful. They did a great job of trying to get to know you without pushing the boundaries. The staff did a great job making me feel welcome and trying to make my stay enjoyable. After a long night of playing and drinking, all I had to do was ask and they happily gave me my late checkout on the house. The Silver Legacy knows how to make someone feel welcome!
